Introduction
Founded by Gregory Blaxland in 1806, Denistone is a relaxed and peaceful residential suburb found 16km north-west of the Sydney CBD. It was named after the original homestead ‘Dennistone’, which was destroyed by bushfire in 1855.
Its properties include many lovely examples of revived Californian bungalows, some post-war red brick homes and a smattering of preserved turn of the century residences. It is very much a family area, with houses set on generous blocks of land with lovely gardens.
A particularly small suburb, Denistone is essentially free of a significant commercial hub, however it does have its own railway station, located on the Northern line. Ryde Hospital in neighbouring Eastwood is a prominent landmark. Rowe Street in Eastwood offers a variety of local shops and restaurants, however for more serious shopping you can head to nearby West Ryde Market Place.
